The Present Government has done a massive amount of development work
in the country hitherto not done by any other Government after independence. President Mahinda Rajapaksa mentioned this at a meeting with the representatives of Badulla District Provincial Council and Local Government institutions. The meeting took place at the Uva Provincial Council auditorium. The meeting has been summoned to look into the development process of the Badulla district and to resolve problems of the public representatives. Discussions took place about the development of roads in each Local Government area in the district. All main roads have been developed. The President pointed out the need to develop estate and other roads. Paying his attention to the drinking water problem, President Rajapaksa said that a programme in this regard would be implemented island wide. The Presdient was able to provide solutions for the problems of peoples’ representatives relating to housing, health, lands and transport. The President emphasized that all parties of the Freedom Alliance should work together at the forthcoming Provincial Council election. It is a habit of certain people to spread rumors when an election comes closer. The President pointed out that it was the responsibility of the peoples’ representatives to educate people on such matters and not to be deceived by rumors. Peoples representatives of the area including Nimal Siripala de Silva, Lakshman Seneviratne, Uditha Lokubandara, Chamika Buddadasa and Shashendra Rajapaksa attended the meeting. Meanwhile Uva Province professionals met the President last night in Badulla. They presented a memento to the President.
