Police 'broker' who demanded ransom by videoing couple. inside van in Gannoruwa

Police 'broker' who demanded ransom by videoing couple ....

inside van in Gannoruwa

An uneasy situation has arisen last afternoon because
of an illicit husband - wife activity inside a van parked at a lonely spot in Gannoruwa, Kandy.

A young man who was passing a van has noticed an illicit love-making couple inside it engaging themselves as husband and wife and had videoed the scene from his mobile phone in secret. But the two of them who were enjoying sex inside the vehicle were oblivion to happenings around them. The young man who made a tap on the van after a few minutes made the couple freeze with fear. The two of them who put on the clothes strewn about here and there then opened the door of the vehicle and responded to the intruder. The youth who had plans of scaring the couple and thereby demand money had spoken to the couple and had made them understand that he was attached to the police and that he was able to observe what took place there. "This is a serious offence .... you can't behave indecently like this in a public place. Look here .... I have evidence with me. I videoed everything quite well" (operates it for them to see). At that point the couple had pleaded and said, "Aney .... don't do anything to us .... rescue us". The youth had once more spoken in a loud tone, "O.k. Let's think and see. If I am to dismiss this you'll will have to pay something of a bit of a big sum". The couple who were gripped with fear had actually believed that he was a police officer and had promised to pay the amount demanded by him.

It is learned that the married lady who was in love with this government servant employed in Kegalla area had been asked a sum of 3 lakhs by this youth who had played the role of a policeman. When he was told that there wasn't such a sum of money with them at that moment, the person had asked them to at least speak to a friend and and get them for him. As such, the said government officer had to contact friends and get down only a sum of Rs. 2 lakhs and 20,000 to the van which had been parked in Muruthalawa area in Gannoruwa, Kandy. The said officer had then placed the money in the youth's hand and had said that the balance he would pay the following day and had thus left the place.

Whatever it is, the couple who presumed after leaving the place that they had got duped, happened to report this to Peradeniya Police yesterday (28). They had also told the police that the youth was to come to collect the balance of of 80,000 that day (29) to the place where the incident happened. As such, the couple had gone to that location with the understanding that a team of police officers in civil clothing were staying in ambush and ultimately the police officers intervened and got hold of the youth as soon as he arrived there at the stipulated time. It was revealed at that point that the young man who pretended that he was attached to the police department was in fact someone who was earning his living as a broker.

After he was interrogated, the money he had demanded from the couple earlier too was found in his house. It was said that the suspect broker was produced before the Kandy Magistrate Courts today (29).

The Peradeniya Police Crimes Investigation Unit are conducting further inquiries regarding the incident.
