Tsunami scare in South yesterday because sea water had flowed over to Galle Road

As a result of a Tsunami scare with sea water flooding on to the road, public at various locations in the Southern Province had scampered from their homes yesterday (5).

This undetermined fear has circulated because sea water has been flowing on to Galle Road these days from various spots in Galle Road from Kahawa to Galle and upto Hikkaduwa Thotagamuwa
Bridge. Further, because of the flood-water situation in Kalutara, the mouth of the river was widened, the sea water has therefore reached a greater distance more than at other times and as a consequence a risky situation has been created around the vicinity of the railway station, it is learned. Deputy Director of Disaster Management Centre, Mr. Pradeep Kodippily made a plea from the public who left their homes in this manner and scampered to safety locations because of rumours spreading about Tsunami which incidentally was devoid of any scientific foundation, not to be misled by false propaganda and hearsay.

This situation it was explained is something which happens because of the off season. Sea water was observed as streaming into the land area in areas such as Kahawa, Godagama, Thelwatta, Peraliya and Thotagamuwa. Video report of that incident, from below
