Airport Customs have seized nearly 12 kiliogrammes of gold smuggled into the country.
The gold has been seized at the Katunayake International Airport during a period of 24 hours. A Sri Lankan who returned from Dubai last morning was arrested with 10 kilogrammes of gold to the value of around 50 million rupees.
Also a mother and a daughter who attempted to smuggle out to Chennai a haul of gold from the Airport were arrested. The haul of gold was confiscated and the suspects were also fined.
