Health officials during a raid conducted in Anuradhapura have succeeded in recovering a stock of spoilt sprats unsuitable for consumption.
The Food and Drugs Investigative Unit of the Anurdhapura Health Services Director’s Office detected this stock of sprats which was being transported in a lorry from Colombo to Anuradhapura. The stock was being transported to Anuradhapura to be sold at the weekly fair. Initial inquiries have revealed that an organized group had been engaged in this racket for some time. Two suspects have been apprehended.
The Food and Drugs Inspector of the Anuradhapura Health Education Office Ananda Weragoda said that legal action will be instituted against these suspects.
