President Rajapaksa has emphasized that there is no existence for the country sans the Maha Sangha.
The President asserted this at a function held near the Ruwanweliseya in Anuradhapura. It was organized to mark the 150th anniversary of the Ramanna Maha Nikaya. The Ramanna Nikaya was launched at the Nadee Uposhatha Seema Malaka in Galle with the performance of the Upa Sampada Vinayakarma on 13th July 1863. 12 Mahanayakes had given leadership to this Nikaya. The incumbent Mahanayake is the Most Ven. Naapane Pemasiri Thera.
150 children entered the priesthood. The President also handed over the Act of Appointment to the newly appointed Ven. Pothane Dhammananda Thera as the North Central Province Chief Sanghanayake. Addressing the function, the President pointed out that the parents would come in for acclamation for the initiatives taken by them to offer their children to the Sasana.
The President said that they are satisfied to note these children entering priesthood. He said he believed that the Buddha Sasana existed within the country for 2600 years mainly due to none other than the members of the Maha Sangha. If not there would not have been a Sasana, a nation and even a country. The President declared that they appreciate the noble services discharged by the Sangha to protect the Sasana, the nation and the country. He paid tributes to the parents for gifting their children to the Sasana.
Members of the Maha Sangha and Parliamentarians were among the large gathering present.
